Deck fitting

My Feeling 1090 has a 'D' ring deck fitting just aft of the anchor locker. It is reinforced below deck with a plate that is bolted to the deck and to the bulkhead of the anchor locker.

It seems to be far too strong to be an anchor point for jackstays or pole downhaul.

Can anyone advise what its function is?

Hi Trevor,

as I am not exactly sure what you are talking about (my english language limitations !), a picture would help.
Maybe it is the chainplate for the mobile forestay ?

Cheers

Thanks Trevor,
it looks like I have the same on my 1090.

It is true that it is reinforced below with a plate, but I am not sure it is strong enough for a forestay. So I use it for the spinaker pole downhaul.
The forestay is on another one: www.clubfeeling1090.fr/greement/greement...-largable-bois-barbu

I also have this setup on Valdemar.
It's used for the storm jib and spinnaker pole down haul.

The storm jib stay wire is tensioned by the storm jib halyard so it never gets the sort of tension in the forestay.
You can get a fair bit of pull on the spinnaker pole and it is strong enough for that.
Kind regards

Thanks Adrian,

Just one question.

Which halyard do you use for the storm jib? I have a hank on headsail so when using the storm jib I would have the options of using the jib or spinnaker halyards or the halyard I currently use as the uphaul for the spinnaker pole.

Cheers,

Trevor

Hi Trevor

I have a dedicated storm jib halyard.
It exits the mast about a meter from the top. It's the blue one in this photo, it goes up to a block and returns to the deck. The storm jib wire stay is attached next to the block, you may have this fixing point.

Using the deck fitting for the tack of the sail brings the center of effort closer to the mast which balances the boat.
I have another dedicated halyard for the spinnaker pole which exits halfway up the mast.
I guess if you are using hank on sails your jib halyard will be available for your storm jib.

All the best
Adrian

Been and had a look at my masthead tonight. Different model to yours (older!!).both genoa halyard and spinnaker halyard exit from the masthead.

There is an exit slot on the port side about a metre from the mast head and bracket on the front of the mast.

I think I should be able to rig a stay similar to yours and fit a sheave for a halyard.

Thanks again.

Here is a photo of the deck end of my setup just for reference.

The storm jib is hank on, it fits between the two swivel shackles. The halyard tensions the whole rig.

One thing I forgot to mention is that there is another D fitting at the base of the mast.
The block in the picture has a quick release shackle so it can be easily moved to the mast for normal sailing. When I am moored I move it out to the deck D to stop it slapping against the mast at night.

Hello,
I also have seen this one on a 1090. The skipper told me it is very efficient.
