A banana in the steering?

I am replacing the lining in the rear cabin ... I removed all the parts fromt he cabin to begin the process.

I noticed the connection between the rudder and the wheel is not straight. It has a bend, like a banana ...

Is this correct? Should the rod be straight, or is it OK that it has this bend?

Do not ask about all the cables touching the rod ... and the electric wires touching the rudder ... all this will be corrected ...

Had it been intentionally bended or is it an accident, we don't know, but :
I would definitely replace this bended banana, with a straight part.

So in your estimation, this piece is normally straight and this item is damaged?

that's what I believe.
But be aware that I am not pro specialist, and we dont know this history of this boat. May be the previous owner made that on purpose, to save room or whatever.
Replacing the part is probably expensive, so you should get advice from a professional before taking decision.

I don't think it is to save space ... it is insdie a box, so it does not make space by bending it.

I will take it out and straighten it. It is a simple job I think to make it straight again.

And it is fixed.

If anyone ever needs to replace the end fitting: they are 16mm bore, M16 x 1.5mm RIGHT HAND THREAD ...
